A train is nothing but a series of vehicles, which are connected to together in series and they all move along a track. A locomotive known as the engine to which all the coaches are attached usually drives the whole train. The locomotive located at the front of the train consists of either single or multiple units of driving or propulsion systems, which are used to carry the whole train forward. A push pull train is a type of train, which has the terminating coach equipped with a driver's cabin so that an engineer can have control over the locomotive. Another kind of vehicle I have encountered in train terminology is a railroad car. The railroad car is a vehicle, which is used to haul either passengers or freight.
A multiple unit locomotive has powered wheels throughout. This is mainly used in trams and transit systems as well as many short haul and long haul passenger trains. The multiple unit system has a driver's cabin at one end of it. Most multiple unit system trains encountered today are high-speed post trains.
Safety Rails For Beds
Tracks are used in the railways solely for serving the purpose of guiding the trains (without separate steering requirements). The track mainly consists of two parallel steel rails, which are generally laid on crossties, which are also known as sleepers. The railroad track is formed by embedding the cross ties in the ballast. The rail is connected in a rigid manner to the cross ties with the help of lag screws, spikes, bolts or clips namely the pandrol clips.
The type of sleeper and the type of fastener used are dependent on each other, spikes are extensively used on the wooden sleepers, clips are used on the concrete kind of sleepers, and bolts are being used on the steel sleepers.
Most of the time a tie plate which is also known as the base plate is used in between the rail and the wood sleepers in order to spread the load of the rail over a huge area of the sleepers. Sometimes in order to hold the rail, spikes are driven through a hole in the base plate, in most of the other cases the base plates are screwed to the sleeper and the rails clipped to the base plate. Rail tracks are generally laid out on a bed of crushed stone which is called the ballast.
Modern trains may also consist of more high tech materials designed for maximum speed and efficiency.
